Find the neighbourhood that matches your mood, then find a sensible way home.
To meet someone casually in Los Angeles, join Naughty Singles, chat first and pick a neighbourhood that suits your mood. Pick your mood
Which Los Angeles are you in the mood for?
Los Angeles is a patchwork of neighbourhoods, and each has its own idea of a good night. Suggest one in your first message and the conversation has somewhere to start. The one night stand guide covers the manners.
Silver Lake and Echo Park
Both count among the city’s hippest neighbourhoods, with bars, nightclubs and restaurants to spare.
Koreatown
Known for one of the country’s largest concentrations of nightclubs and 24-hour businesses and restaurants, plus karaoke bars and Korean barbecue.
West Hollywood
A city in its own right, incorporated in 1984, and home to the Sunset Strip, a corridor of nightlife and dining.
Venice
Founded as a seaside resort in 1905. Abbot Kinney Boulevard is lined with shops, restaurants, bars and galleries.
Downtown and the Arts District
Downtown is the central business district, and the Arts District on its eastern edge keeps adding galleries.
Santa Monica
Another city of its own, with a three-mile coastline, a pier built in 1909 and a pedestrian-only shopping promenade.
Getting home
Five ways home when the night runs late
Greater Los Angeles spreads across five counties, so the ride home deserves as much planning as the first drink.
| Way home | What to know | Plan for |
|---|---|---|
| Your own car | RAINN advises staying in control of your own transport and never letting a date drive you home. | Say goodbye in a busy spot and leave when you choose. |
| Metro Rail | Weekday B Line trains leave North Hollywood from about 4:32am until about 12:03am. | The last train goes soon after midnight, so check your own line before you settle in. |
| Night buses | Metro publishes an OWL night bus map for overnight routes. | Find your route on the map before you leave home. |
| Ride-hail | California’s Public Utilities Commission defines app-based ride-hail as prearranged rides booked through an app. | Book it yourself and tell your friend when you set off. |
| Driverless cars | Waymo says it operates across Los Angeles, from Santa Monica to Echo Park and down to Inglewood, but not to LAX. | Check that your pick-up and drop-off both sit inside its area. |
None of that is a reason to stay in. It is a reason to choose a spot you can leave by more than one route.

Los Angeles, in a few answers
Is Los Angeles good for casual dating without a car?
It takes planning. The B Line finishes around half past midnight, and Metro publishes an OWL night bus map for overnight routes. Ride-hail and driverless cars fill some gaps. Pick a neighbourhood you can leave by more than one route.
Where is a good place for a first meeting in Los Angeles?
Choose somewhere public in daylight or early evening. Grand Central Market is open daily from 8am to 9pm, Griffith Observatory stays open until 10pm from Tuesday to Sunday, and Venice’s Ocean Front Walk is a pedestrian promenade by the beach. Tell a friend where you will be.
Do I have to live in Los Angeles itself?
No. Greater Los Angeles spans five counties, and your matches follow your distance setting. The age mix above covers all of California, so widen your radius if your corner is quiet. The singles near me page explains how.
Where can I get tested in Los Angeles?
LA County Public Health’s Division of HIV and STD Programs lists STD screening and treatment services. The CDC’s GetTested locator also finds confidential testing near you. A doctor or clinic can help you choose which tests to have.
